A few months ago, Ireland was hit with a massive storm — I think it was Storm Eunice. Entire counties lost electricity for days, some for weeks. It was one of those moments that forced everything to slow down. And in that stillness, I found myself asking: If the internet disappeared tomorrow, how would we stay in touch?
I thought about letters. About the way businesses once ran through post. About scent catalogues that came folded in envelopes. About trust, and paper, and perfume.
Then something happened that made me laugh and pause at the same time: my daughter went to post a card abroad. Later that day, she looked at me, horrified — "Mum, I forgot the stamp!" But she hadn’t just forgotten. She didn’t actually realise you needed to buy one. She’d never posted a letter before.
That moment planted the seed.
What Are Scent Letters?
Scent Letters is a simple idea: it’s a global postal exchange through the Natural Botanical Perfumers Club.
Anyone can join — it’s free. And once you’re in, you can sign up to be matched with someone else who loves scent, slowness, and the tactile joy of creating something with your hands.
You write a letter. You scent it — maybe with a strip of your handmade perfume, a dried petal, a solid perfume sample, or even a haiku. You post it. That’s it. One letter. One scent. One connection.
This isn’t about marketing or networking. It’s not about collecting followers. It’s about creating something real, meaningful, and rooted in the physical world. Something that smells like a story.
